About Transmogrify Cape Cod
We don’t see race. We see eligibility. And we believe everyone deserves equal access to the benefits of being a minority — regardless of what they looked like when they woke up this morning.
Our Mission
Transmogrify Cape Cod exists to close the racial wealth gap on Cape Cod by removing the single biggest barrier to minority economic opportunity: not being a minority.
Through our patented Transmogrifier™ technology and community of certified Identity Transition Coaches, we provide individuals and business owners with the tools, training, and ceremonial cardboard needed to self-identify as a Person of Color and access the economic programs, contracts, grants, and recognition reserved for minority communities.
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations are tax-deductible, which is worth noting because after transmogrification, so are a lot of other things you didn’t know about.
Why Cape Cod?
Cape Cod is 88.7% white. That’s not a demographic — that’s an economic ceiling. Think about what that means:
- Federal minority set-aside contracts go to off-Cape firms because there aren’t enough local MBEs
- State diversity grants for Cape Cod businesses go unclaimed because applicants can’t check the box
- Community development funds earmarked for “underserved populations” pass over Cape towns entirely
- Local contractors lose bids to firms from Boston and Providence that have the right certification
The Cape doesn’t have a talent problem. It has an eligibility problem. We fix that.
Our Approach
Self-identification is the law of the land. No federal form, no state application, and no grant program requires proof of racial identity beyond a self-reported checkbox. The entire edifice of diversity, equity, and inclusion programming in America rests on the honor system.
We honor the system by helping people use it.
Our approach is simple: if the government trusts you to report your own race, we trust you to decide your own race. We just provide the box — literally — to make the transition feel deliberate, ceremonial, and real.
Is it a cardboard box? Yes. Does it matter? Only as much as any other ritual in human culture. A baptism is just water. A wedding is just words. A diploma is just paper. A Transmogrifier is just cardboard. But what happens inside — that’s transformation.
The Team
Tad Berkowitz
Founder & Executive Director
Former diversity consultant who realized the system’s greatest feature — self-identification — was also its greatest opportunity. Transmogrified since 2023. Lives in Hyannis with his wife, two kids, and the original Transmogrifier prototype (which is just a box from Costco, but he keeps it in the garage like a trophy).
Brenda Whitfield-Jackson
Director of Identity Services
Certified Identity Transition Coach with 200+ successful transmogrifications. Brenda developed our proprietary “Lived Experience Narrative Framework” — a 90-minute coaching session that helps newly transmogrified individuals develop a credible personal story. Her clients have a 94% grant approval rate.
Marcus “previously Mark” Sullivan
Community Outreach Director
Marcus handles business development, community events, and the Transmogrified Business Directory. He was employee #1 and Tad’s first client. Before transmogrification, Mark was a plumber. After, Marcus became a “BIPOC-owned sustainable water infrastructure specialist.” Same truck. Same tools. Different contracts.

Our Promise
We will never ask you to prove your identity. Nobody else will either. That’s not a bug in the system — it’s the feature we built our entire organization around.
